One of the largest towns in Cornwall, St. Austell lies around 23 km / 14 miles north-east of Truro and is home to a number of truly world-class tourist attractions. These include the magnificent Lost Gardens of Heligan, which were opened to the public in the 1990s after they were rediscovered and thoroughly restored, with much replanting and numerous specimen plants. Expect to find ancient tree ferns, jungle areas and a large restaurant. Also close to Truro, St. Austell's Eden Project is home to a series of giant conservatory domes housing many large tropical and exotic plants.
